The American Folk Festival Goes to the Dogs!

There’s a new dog on the streets of Bangor. She’s not your typical pooch, though: With a shiny metal jacket and a brand new collar, she is freshly out of the groomers. Oh, and I did I mention she’s on wheels?

The Stray Dog food truck is one of two food trucks that are a mobile iteration of The Family Dog in Orono, and is currently located at the Kmart parking lot on the Hogan Road in Bangor.  Owner Bob Cutler will be taking the truck for walks in various spots this summer. Both the Stray Dog and Grammy’s Grilled Cheeses and Melts are giving back a percentage of every sale to charities in the area.  And that’s where I come in.

This Tuesday, June 16th, The Stray Dog will be having me as a “celebrity chef” and ten percent of all sales during operating hours will benefit The American Folk Festival.  I disputed the celebrity part, and my wife would never call me a chef, but they’re having none of it.  I’ll be there from 11 AM to 2 PM Tuesday, serving hot dogs Chicago style, with chili and cheese, or “street” – with mustard, sauerkraut, sautéed onions and tomato. The Stray Dog also features subs, bombs, and desserts, with cold drinks and combo specials at the ready.  Check out their menu for all of the delicious possibilities.

Each Tuesday’s celebrity chef gets to choose where the money they raise that day goes, and I chose the American Folk Festival for many reasons.  As someone who has been at every festival since it began with the National Folk Festival in 2002, I get so much enjoyment from the music , vendors (and of course food) that the American Folk Festival brings to the waterfront in Bangor each year.  I truly value that the Festival continues to be free of charge and bring so many enriching experiences to our community.
